The most important aspect of success mindset is SELF-CARE. Without self-care you can’t possibly have the beautiful abundant business that you desire. Making money is an expression of self-care as self-care leads to your business growing and you being able to support yourself and continuing serve your clients by doing what you love.
Let’s have a look at a couple of important aspects of self care:
1. Fuel your body
2. Sleep
3. Move your body
4. Morning routine
5. Life support
1. Fuel your body
Imagine driving your car to the petrol station and deciding that you don’t feel like putting unleaded petrol in your car today, so you fill that tank right up with diesel or even orange juice. Needless to say your car isn’t going to run very well that day. It is the same thing with our precious bodies.
Learn what your body needs to feel good. My body needs plenty of good quality fats and lots and lots of vegetables and fruit. I feel great mentally and physically when I don’t eat too many grains and cut out processed sugar.
Two years ago I stopped drinking alcohol and the difference it makes to my mind is phenomenal. I wake up every morning with a clear head, even if I’ve gone to bed a bit late or haven’t eaten a 100% how I think I should be eating. I can think clearly about what I want to do that day, how I want to do my work and how I want to serve my clients at a higher level.
What kind of fuel does your body need and what does it not need?
Are you someone who can do moderation and can have the occasional treat or are you an all-or-nothing person like me?
Some people can have the occasional couple of glasses of wine without it affecting them. Others feel the effects for a couple of days. Women who are at the time of life where they have to metabolize hormones are more likely to suffer the effects of a few glasses. The enzyme that deals with alcohol is called dehydrogenase. This enzyme also deals with our reproductive hormones which makes us a bit more vulnerable to the effects of alcohol when we go through a particular hormonal phase. Our bodies use a lot of energy to deal with those hormones which is why women tend to be more sensitive to alcohol when premenstrual or very hormonal.
I can honestly say that giving up alcohol has been a wonderful decision for my body and mind.
2. Sleep
Try go get at least around 7 to 8 hours sleep a night. Too much sleep isn’t good for you either, but that doesn’t tend to be a problem for most of us entrepreneurs!
If you feel tired during the day, give yourself permission to nap. I got into naps when my children were small and I haven’t stopped napping since!
If you’re someone who loves to get up early for your morning routine, don’t get up earlier if it means you didn’t get enough sleep during the night. That is counterproductive. Try to remove all things that disturb your sleep or take action to protect yourself from whatever disturbs you (if you have a snoring husband, try earplugs instead of removing your husband 🙂 ).
3. Move your body
4. A morning routine
- 20 minutes of meditation
- 20 minutes of reading something empowering
- 20 minutes of stretching
- 20 minutes of journalling
Sometimes I just do five minutes of each of those things. Sometimes I don’t make any plans and I just see what my body and mind need this morning. I start by making myself a gorgeous big giant cup of rooibosh tea. Then I might do some journalling or decide to read something inspiring about mindset, do some stretching or other exercise, use some affirmations. It really gets me set up for the day.
5. Life support
