When I’m talking about size I’m talking about the size of your email list. I don’t really like the word ‘list’ because at the end of the day they are people, your people, your tribe, your followers. They are interested in what you are doing.
There can be terrible email list shaming on the internet. I have felt this myself on several occasions. I have been invited to be guest at a couple of telesummits. I had lovely conversations with the organizer and they loved the topic I wanted to talk about. It all sounded very exciting until we came to the bit about email list size.

At that point my list was relatively small, between 1500 and 2500. As soon as the event organizers heard that, they told me they thought my list would be bigger at the stage of business that I was at and told me to come back to them in a couple of years. I found that really hard at the time. Now I don’t let that kind of stuff get to me anymore.

It doesn’t pay to only look at numbers. It’s not about the numbers. It’s about the relationship you have with the people on your list. I got to 6 figures in business with an email list size of just 600 which is considered tiny, but those 600 people had put their hand up to receiving something from me.

You don’t have to be at the Holy Grail of 5000 list subscribers to have a successful business.

I’d love to know your thoughts. Please don’t hesitate to comment below.
